BACK TO WORK!
It's been far too long since last posting. Work and personal stuff has taken up time (were having a baby) so sorry for not posting sooner. Lots of press and discussion lately on where America is headed. With the upcoming elections, news services and pundits are spinning the battle they lies ahead. In the next while I'll have some comments on 'the American dream" as well as some stories from the road. Check back soon.

NIAGARA FALLS AND BUFFALO!!!
Hey people out there. I need some help. If anyone knows of anyone in the Niagara Falls NY or Buffalo area, I'm trying to track down some people to photograph there for the project. Doesn't matter who or where, but happy to get some contacts. Thanks!!

So it's been awhile since my last post. way too long and this is the trouble when you have too much going on(who doesn't!)....Anyhow, it's time to revamp some stuff and revisit some things too. The last year has been a huge shift for America and so the fires of rekindled and renewed enthusiasm for the project have been set. I'm attaching this picture of a guy I met in Cayucos, CA; his name is Bob Currie and he really seemed to be an interesting dude. I photographed him very early outside the one local coffee/gas/lotto/liquor store in town. He had to dash quickly and I wrote him to ask if he would like to participate and write down his AMERICAN DREAM, but to no avail. I'm going to try again because he has a great face and I like this image. I didn't really direct him at all; just asked to take his photo and he ended up with this great look of poise. Anyhow, if anyone out there knows where he is, I would like to get in touch.

California was great. This is a photo of Nate Kaufman. We met Nate on a cold stormy afternoon in Point Reyes National Seashore Park. It's about 45 minutes North of San Francisco. This beach was surly and looked pretty intimidating. The wave sets were really disorganized and frothy and we were sure that it could not be surfed. Lo and behold, two minutes later we see this guy run down the beach and put his board into the foam pile and begin paddling out. The light was fading and we thought for sure he was going to be hammered by the snarling water. We watched as he tried for about 30 minutes to paddle out and get some reprieve from the onslaught of breaking monster waves. Finally, exhausted and spent he came back ashore. It was a brave (crazy!) try. We headed down the beach to see if he was ok and say hi and he told us that his dad had passed away last year and this day would have been his birthday. He had come to scatter his dad's ashes in the pacific and he showed us the film canister he kept tucked in his wetsuit with the ashes. Nate is finishing school and then thinking of going on an extended surfing holiday in the South Pacific before deciding what he "wants to do with his life". He was cool enough to shoot some photos in the surf and some portraits in the parking lot up on the cliffs. I like this photo especially with the gravity of what this day was and the significance of his dad's birthday. Funny, because had we left the beach two minutes earlier we never would have met.
